Illinois River
Oklahoma's most famous float stream — a clear, gravel-bottomed Ozark river winding from the Arkansas line down toward Tenkiller, beloved by paddlers and smallmouth anglers alike. The scenic reach above Tahlequah runs clear over bedrock and gravel; it comes up fast and muddy after Ozark rain and drops back into shape within a few days.

Lower Illinois River
Oklahoma's premier trout tailwater — the cold water released from the bottom of Tenkiller Ferry Lake keeps the Lower Illinois running cold enough to hold rainbows year-round, with regular ODWC stockings. Flow is entirely dam-controlled: it fishes best on low, non-generation water and turns pushy and dangerous fast when the Corps runs turbines, so the generation schedule matters more than any single CFS number.

Mountain Fork
A clear Ouachita river with two faces: the upper stream above Broken Bow Lake near Smithville runs as a wade-and-float smallmouth river, while the Lower Mountain Fork below Broken Bow Dam is Oklahoma's finest trout tailwater — a cold, year-round rainbow and brown fishery with a special-regulation Blue Ribbon reach in Beavers Bend. The tailwater is generation-driven; the upper river is rain-driven freestone.

Blue River
One of Oklahoma's few free-flowing rivers and a genuine gem — a clear, spring-fed stream tumbling over limestone shelves through the ODWC's Blue River Public Fishing & Hunting Area near Tishomingo. It's the state's marquee winter trout put-and-take fishery (November–March) and a fine smallmouth and spotted-bass stream the rest of the year.

Arkansas River
The state's dominant big river, running from the Kansas line past Tulsa and Muskogee toward the Arkansas border through a chain of navigation pools and dams. Below Keystone and the Zink/Tulsa low-water dams it's a bank-and-boat fishery for sand bass, stripers, hybrids, blue and flathead catfish, and paddlefish. Levels are dam- and generation-driven, not rain.

Grand (Neosho) River
The Neosho enters northeast Oklahoma from Kansas and becomes the Grand River through the GRDA chain — Grand Lake, Hudson, and Fort Gibson. Above and below the lakes it's a big, fertile river famous for its spring paddlefish run at Miami and Twin Bridges, plus white bass, crappie, and catfish. Flow below the dams is generation-driven.

Glover River
Oklahoma's last major free-flowing river with no dams on it — a wild, clear Ouachita stream tumbling out of the mountains north of Broken Bow through remote, forested country. A wade-and-float smallmouth stream that runs skinny and technical in summer and pushes hard after mountain rain.

Baron Fork
A clear Ozark tributary of the Illinois joining near Gore, running over gravel and bedrock through the Cookson Hills. A wade-and-float smallmouth stream with the same character as the Illinois — skinny and technical in summer, pushy after rain.

Kiamichi River
A long Ouachita river running from the high country near Big Cedar down through Clayton and Antlers toward Hugo Lake and the Red. The clear, rocky upper reaches hold smallmouth and spotted bass; below the crossings it broadens into a bank-and-boat catfish and largemouth river.

Caney River

Canadian River
A broad, sandy river crossing the width of Oklahoma from the Texas panhandle past Norman and Purcell toward Eufaula. Wide and shallow over sand for much of its length, it holds channel and flathead catfish, sand bass, and gar, with the best fishing where it deepens near the reservoir arms and below the crossings — a bank-and-boat river.
