State College's home limestoner and one of the East's great wild brown-trout streams — no stocking, heavy insect life, and thousands of wild browns per mile. The Fisherman's Paradise reach is regulations-only, catch-and-release, and fishes cold and clear nearly year-round. Public, pressured, and productive; it fishes best mid-flow and clouds fast after storms.

Penns Creek
Central PA's big limestone freestone and the stage for the legendary Green Drake hatch each late May. Susquehanna River
The nation's longest river without a major navigation lock and one of the great smallmouth fisheries anywhere — a mile-wide, ledge-and-grass flat through central PA that you wade where you can and float everywhere else. Fall smallmouth, walleye, musky, catfish and carp all share the flow. Big water: read it for bank and wade-flat safety, not trout-style wading.

Little Juniata River
The 'Little J' is a comeback story — once badly polluted, now a robust wild brown-trout fishery running fast and green through a limestone gorge below Tyrone. Big bugs, big wild browns, and easy rail-trail access make it one of central PA's best. It runs a touch bigger and pushier than the pure spring creeks.

Elk Creek
The biggest and most famous of Pennsylvania's Steelhead Alley tributaries — miles of public and Fish & Boat access draw chrome up from Lake Erie every fall through spring. A small, shale-bottomed creek that fills and fishes on each rain, then clears to green; low and clear means spooky fish, high and muddy means wait. The whole show is about water level and clarity.

Yellow Breeches Creek
The Cumberland Valley's most popular limestoner, famous for the year-round catch-and-release stretch at Boiling Springs where the Children's Lake outflow keeps trout cold and rising. Wild and holdover browns plus heavy PFBC stocking make it a reliable, accessible fishery; it warms and shifts to smallmouth in the lower miles toward the Susquehanna.

Walnut Creek
The most accessible steelhead water in the Alley — the Walnut Creek Access and marina at Manchester Hole concentrate fall-through-spring chrome right where the creek meets Lake Erie.
