Green River
Utah's crown jewel and one of the finest tailwaters on earth — the Green below Flaming Gorge Dam runs gin-clear and cold through Red Canyon in the famous A, B, and C sections, holding thousands of wild rainbows, browns, and cutthroat per mile. Flow is entirely dam-controlled: the fishery lives and dies by the Flaming Gorge release, so the generation/reservoir schedule matters far more than any rain event. Far downstream the river turns into a warm desert big-water run at Jensen and Green River town.

Provo River
Utah's blue-ribbon tailwater and the most famous trout river on the Wasatch Front — three distinct reaches, all tailwaters. The Upper Provo runs from Jordanelle country near Woodland and Hailstone; the Middle Provo below Jordanelle Dam through Heber Valley to Charleston is a restored, meandering brown-and-cutthroat factory; the Lower Provo through Provo Canyon below Deer Creek Dam is a cold, technical wild-trout reach. Flow is dam-controlled on the Middle and Lower — releases, not rain, set the game.

Logan River
Cache Valley's blue-ribbon trout river — the Logan tumbles out of Logan Canyon through pocket water and deep runs, holding wild browns, cutthroat, native Bonneville cutthroat, and rainbows plus mountain whitefish. One of northern Utah's finest freestone fisheries, roadside-accessible through the canyon.

Weber River
A long, varied Wasatch-Back trout river running from the Uintas near Oakley down through Rockport and Echo to Morgan and the canyon above Ogden — wild browns, rainbows, cutthroat, and native mountain whitefish throughout. Partly tailwater below the reservoirs, partly freestone; the upper meadows and the Morgan-area reaches are the wading favorites.

Strawberry River
A blue-ribbon tailwater and freestone below Soldier Creek Dam — the Strawberry runs cold and clear through the Pinnacles reach near Fruitland, holding wild cutthroat, rainbows, and browns in a tight, gorgeous canyon. Below Fruitland it warms as it heads toward Duchesne.

Ogden River
A cold Wasatch tailwater below Pineview Reservoir — the South Fork joins above Pineview, and the tailrace through Ogden Canyon holds wild browns and stocked rainbows. Below the dam it's release-driven; the urban reach through Ogden fishes surprisingly well for browns.

A cold Cache Valley canyon freestone joining the Logan near Hyrum — wild browns, native Bonneville cutthroat, and whitefish in a beautiful, accessible canyon. A local favorite for pocket-water dry-fly and nymph fishing.

Colorado River
The big water of canyon country — the Colorado enters Utah near the state line and runs through the red-rock country past Cisco, Moab, and into Canyonlands. A warm, powerful desert river holding smallmouth, channel catfish, and carp, plus the endangered native Colorado pikeminnow and razorback sucker. A float-and-bank big-river fishery, never a wade stream.

Bear River
The largest tributary of the Great Salt Lake and the longest river in North America that never reaches the sea — the Bear loops through Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho, entering Utah as cold trout water near the state line and finishing as a warm, slow lowland river near Corinne. A true mixed-bag river across its length.

Duchesne River
A long Uinta Basin river running off the south slope of the Uintas — cold trout water up high near Hanna and Tabiona, sliding into a warmer, siltier plains river by Myton and Randlett. The upper reaches hold wild browns and cutthroat; the lower river is a mixed warmwater float.

Virgin River
A red-rock desert river draining Zion country toward St. George — the North Fork through Zion Canyon and the upper mainstem near Virgin hold wild and stocked trout in the cold reaches, while the lower river near Hurricane and St. George is a warm, flashy desert stream. Home to the endangered woundfin and Virgin River chub, so native fish come first.

South Fork Ogden River

Sevier River
Utah's longest interior river — the Sevier runs from the high plateaus near Hatch north through a chain of reservoirs and irrigated valleys before dying in the desert near Delta. The upper reaches near Hatch and Kingston are cold brown-trout water; the lower river is a warm, heavily-diverted irrigation river holding browns, walleye, and rough fish.

Diamond Fork
A cold canyon trout stream in Diamond Fork Canyon near Thistle, fed by the Strawberry-Duchesne transbasin system — wild browns and cutthroat in a scenic reach popular with Utah Valley anglers. Flow is influenced by the Sixth Water/Syar transbasin releases.

San Juan River
A powerful red-rock desert river running across southern Utah past Bluff toward Lake Powell — the famous cold trout tailwater is upstream in New Mexico, but the Utah reach near Bluff is a warm, silty big-river float holding channel catfish, smallmouth, carp, and endangered native fish. A wild desert river best known for its multi-day float trips through the Goosenecks.
